WHO'S ON FIRST
NICKNAME: Tick
AGE: 12
GENDER: Stallion
BREED: Thoroughbred
COLOR/COAT: seal bay
SIRED BY: Ally Cat
OUT OF: Adlibber by Never Bend
RACING: No
HISTORY:
Give a guy a break, eh? Trick had a long, nasty career full of ups and downs and hopeful prayers. Coming from a great racer, though not a phenomenally spectacular champion like Secretariat, he had a fair chance in life on the track and he popped from owner to owner squeezing every bit of toothpaste out of that career tube! When his career would start to decline he'd be sold off to the highest bidder, pick up again, and sell again. It was believed that Trick just grew bored with the same routine and everywhere he went something changed in each daily routine! He's long since retired to the grand old life of siring his own colts, with the hopes that they'll surpass his long career, and helping start youngsters with a steady running partner. He did not retire from injuries and he remains fit, even today, thanks to his assistance with training his own offspring. Of course people tried to give him a "real" retirement but his health declined from depression of not working ( go figure! )
PERSONALITY:
With Trick it is not about the race, or the win. It's the track, feeling the track, knowing the track, loving the track - and the wind. If you don't have those two things and don't understand then you'll never be a race horse. Forget what you heard about heart-to-run or win or whatever emotional none-sense you've been told. With Trick it's all about the math and figures behind everything. Fast, slow, turf, dirt, windy, still, sunny, rainy. Everything factors in and every calculation counts. If you don't load in the gate right your race is ruined! He's a grouchy, grumpy old man that doesn't believe in the "new" way of doing things and thinks "kids these days" are "too pampered" and "spoiled". Why Champions in his days were true kings, fit, ready to run at a moments notice but not air-headed and brainless who all they do is run till they're sick. He hates how run-run-run the colts are these days and puts a serious effort in making sure his offspring at least have brains before they sell.

"What are you doing?" The old, gray man looked both shocked and puzzled by the strange sight he stumble upon in old Tricks stallion. The dark stallion turned his head to look over his shoulder at the open stall door on his broad, dipping with wage, dark back was his younger handler - who was maybe only 20 years his owners junior making him old as well - standing to reach an outlet high up in the ceiling.
"I'm setting up the radio." the younger of the old men answered. The first snorted and rolled his eyes. Trick responded with a hard snort of his own. "Easy boy." the man on his back cood to him. Oh yes, like Trick really had plans to go anywhere like this. Look mah, no hands! ha! He sneezed and shook his mane, trying to not shake the man too bad.
"Get down from there before you get yourself killed!" the owner cried, face turning pale white. He shuffled into the stall as quickly as he could, grasping at Tricks leather halter to hold him still. The stallion sniffed his sleeve and twitched his ears.
"Ah, he ain't gonna kill me. Just-one-more--uhnnn--there!" the radio blared to life, startling the youngsters in the adjacent stalls to either side. Trick simply twitched an ear, listening. When the music didn't change he stamped impatiently.
"It's on no get down."
"Not yet, not yet. He doesn't like this channel."
"He doesn't- what!? He's a horse!"
"Aye, and it'd do you a lot of good to learn a bit about the flesh you bought. This ones a smart boy, he likes working, he coulda been a cow pony if he'd been bred right." The man on his back got a far-away look in his eyes. "He likes listening to that classical stuff. You know, Mozart and Beethoven and them." he waved as he turned the dial and finally found the correct station. Trick nickered happily. "There you go old man. That should do you for a few hours." The man scrambled down, nimble as he'd been as a jockey despite his age, gave the stallion a pat and walked away.
